Chan Lim Chinese And Western Painting Exhibit At SM City Bacolod
I’m not much of an artist since I don’t draw well but I do appreciate art and applaud the talent of many local and international artists. I must say that if only I have this God-given talent, I probably would have staged a couple of exhibits already. Good thing that my daughter, Kimy, is a budding artist. She loves painting so much, that’s why I brought her along when several of us Bacolod bloggers and media and SM City executives were invited to the press conference and opening ceremonies of the Chan Lim: An Exhibit of Chinese and Western Paintings at SM City Bacolod. The joint sponsors of this event are SM City Bacolod, Sun Yat Sen High School Alumni Association Negros Chapter and Dynamic Youth Iloilo Chapter.
An on-the-spot Chinese Painting demonstration by Alex Chan Lim
After the press conference, a Chinese Painting Workshop was conducted at the SMX Convention Center. We were lucky to attend the workshop sponsored by SM City Bacolod for the Media and Bloggers with no less than Alex Chan Lim doing the demonstration on how to do Chinese Painting. He also assigned his students to sit with us and teach us Chinese Painting. But aside from us, 400 others participated during the free Chinese Painting Workshop held at the mall’s Main Atrium.

The exhibit is in celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival where 34 artists consisting of the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students prepared 217 of their artworks done in Chinese Scroll Painting, Lantern Painting, and Oil Painting. This exhibit includes an interactive painting of three generations.
A display of beautiful Chinese and Western paintings
The Chan Lim Family of Artists have been actively involved in the arts for more than forty years. Jose Chan Lim, the father, has been painting for decades along with his four sons. His style is a blend of Chinese and Western painting and his medium is oil.
Also present was his son Alex (country manager of Money Gram International), who preferred Chinese painting. Eventhough all the brothers are professionals, Alex said that painting gives him fulfillment and joy. As part of their social responsibility, they teach others for free.
The Chan Lim Family of Artists & Students
This is the family’s first exhibit in Bacolod and one of the biggest. They hold two exhibits in the US and six in the Philippines every year. Their group has collaborated with SM since 1996. They make use of various materials and have painted on porcelains, rice paper, lanterns, fans, and scrolls.
