MassKara Festival 2016 — Schedule Of Events
Bacolod City is the most populous city in the Negros Island Region and bears the nickname “The City of Smiles”. Declared by the Department of Science and Technology as a “center of excellence” for information technology and business process management operations, it’s most notable for its MassKara Festival held during the third week of October. This year, the longest MassKara Festival will run from October 01 until October 23 in celebration of Bacolod City’s 37th MassKara Festival.

What made the festival more memorable was the presence of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte accompanied by Bacolod Mayor Bing Leonardia and other city and national officials on opening day. The president led the opening rites held at the public plaza. Describing MassKara as one of the more colorful events in the Philippines, it’s the first festival that President Duterte declared open since being elected. Since the celebration is very long, I encourage everyone to take part and have the grandest day of their life.

Bacolod: Back On Track. Festivals celebrate the most significant events and developments in a community’s life. This year, the biggest event in Bacolod was the emergence of a new political order that rose in a background of tumult and unprecedented divisiveness. That our people pulled through together speaks of our maturity. That is what we celebrate about in this year’s MassKara.

The mask. The sun. The bird. A smiling mask, representing the present Bacolod, is rendered as a cheerful sun, representing her people’s hopes and aspirations. It can also be viewed as a bird in flight, gentle but strong in its desire to reach her dreams.
The MassKara Festival 2016 Music
The Silver MassKara Festival Organization (SMFO) launched last September 22 the official music of the 2016 MassKara Festival at the lobby of the Bacolod Government Center. The airing of the music was accompanied by the MassKara dancers of Barangay Granada, last year’s champion in the Street and Arena Dance Competition.
