Negros Power Boosts BACIWA-Primewater Pumping Stations With New Generators

Negros Power, in a commendable initiative to address the power supply insufficiencies at Alijis Substation, has extended support by providing three generator sets to the pumping stations of Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) – Primewater. These pumping stations, crucially linked to Alijis Feeder 3, were lacking the necessary power backup to ensure continuous water supply during rotational brownouts.

Recent developments have seen the deployment of a 10 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) mobile substation and an 18MVA new power transformer at the Alijis substation compound as of August 24. Extensive preparations, including electrical tests, connections to the NGCP’s 69KV transmission line, and integration with the 3-phase automatic circuit reclosers, are underway to stabilize the power supply to Alijis feeder 3 and other connected feeders.

Anticipated to conclude by Monday evening, this endeavor aims to meet the power demands of all 47,000 consumers linked to the Alijis substation, eliminating the need for further rotational brownouts. The President and CEO of Negros Power, Mr. Roel Castro, expressed optimism, stating, “By Monday or Tuesday, this will normalize those 47,000 consumers on Manual Load Dropping should no longer be affected by Tuesday.”

Alijis substation holds significant importance, slated for rehabilitation under Negros Power’s 5-year plan. The recent failure of its 13-year-old power transformer on August 21 expedited its rehabilitation, along with six other substations previously owned by CENECO facing operational challenges.

Mr. Castro emphasized the extraordinary efforts being undertaken to restore power to all consumers, acknowledging potential dissatisfaction but urging patience and understanding. The commitment to prioritize consumer welfare and ensure uninterrupted power supply underscores Negros Power’s dedication to service excellence and community welfare.
