Negros Power Strengthens Grid Reliability Ahead Of Elections Through Major Maintenance Initiative

In preparation for the upcoming national and local elections, Negros Power has undertaken an intensive maintenance and rehabilitation drive across its distribution network to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply. The critical maintenance activities were carried out over the weekend of April 26–27, 2025, reinforcing the company’s commitment to operational reliability during significant national events.
Strengthening the Network Through Proactive Measures
The maintenance operations began early Saturday at the Murcia Substation, with crews working from 6:00 AM until 5:45 PM. During this period, over 800 new insulators were installed, and key repairs were completed on aging power lines, improving the overall resilience of the local grid.

On Sunday, the focus shifted to the Reclamation Substation, where maintenance teams replaced more than 400 additional insulators and removed outdated and defective equipment. These efforts were aimed at enhancing substation performance and reducing the risk of system faults, particularly during the high-demand election period.
Engr. Oscar Duca, Area Office Assistant Manager of Negros Power, emphasized the importance of these efforts. “This intensive maintenance work is crucial in preventing unexpected power interruptions, especially during significant events like the elections,” he stated. “We are committed to delivering seamless service and taking proactive steps to reinforce our network’s reliability.”
Commitment to Election Readiness
Negros Power’s maintenance drive is part of its obligations under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on April 7, 2025. Under the MOA, the company pledged to conduct early preventive maintenance and network rehabilitation to guarantee power reliability before, during, and after the elections.

In line with this commitment, Negros Power announced that starting April 28, 2025 — two weeks before election day — no scheduled power interruptions will occur within its service areas. This move ensures that residents, election officers, and polling centers can rely on a continuous power supply, supporting the smooth and efficient conduct of the May 12 elections.
Positive Community Response
The proactive efforts have not gone unnoticed by the public. John Rey Canillada, a resident of Barangay 35, expressed his appreciation: “It’s reassuring to see Negros Power following through on their promises. Instead of worrying about brownouts, it’s good to see them working hard and investing in better service for all of us.”
A Broader Vision for a Stronger Power Network
The recent maintenance activities are part of Negros Power’s broader five-year modernization and rehabilitation program. This ambitious plan aims to upgrade existing infrastructure, introduce innovative grid technologies, and deliver more stable, efficient, and future-ready electricity service to communities across the region.

By prioritizing preventive maintenance and modernization, Negros Power not only secures operational excellence but also upholds its role in supporting the democratic process. As the elections approach, residents and voters alike can take comfort in the assurance that the power network is ready to meet the challenge.
